Active since around 2023, the Berlin-based Post Punk solo project of Kyrgyzstan-born, German-bred songwriter Jan Kurman, under his Bishkek alias, despite the sparse releases, deftly distils introspective and stirring retro synth-laden Cold, Dark Wave ambience, pulsing and brimming with earnest intimacy and profound tormented emotions.
The heart-warming new single, “When killers laugh”, drives steady, tightly mechanical drum patterns and broody throbbing bass lines through enveloping layers of glowing, weeping synth melodies, laced with vaporous, desolate shivering arpeggios, to orchestrate a crushingly tender and aching melancholy that mines into the deep shadows of a agonized soul, brought forth by fearfully distressed vocals, longing to see a loved one’s face again.
Keep up with Bishkek:
