It’s the start of August holiday and overwhelmed by the torrid heat, I take the opportunity, albeit at a diminished pace, to highlights some up-and-coming new bands.
Between Minds are a young new Mexican post-punk 4-piece from Ecatepec De Morelos that have unveiled the first song from their forthcoming self-titled debut album via Mexico City’s We are One Records.
“Dentro” is a song about love, anger, and how the feelings left inside can scar and impact relationships. Driving and pulsing, melodic bass lines form the very spine of the track with Cure-esque swirly interweaving of the sparkly guitars create a dazed tension and restrained sensuality. Backed by relentless drumming and deepened by the haunted, bleak yet emotional vocals brimming with lovelorn, despair and withdrawal.
A promising debut for a band that is yet to develop a more personal sound, definitely a rewarding listen.
