Track Of The Day BENDI BOI
While it is not uncommon to listen to Shoegaze, Indie or Dream Pop bands from South Korea, the same cannot be said for the Post-Punk /Darkwave camp.
Here is the solo project of Shinji Kim from Seoul, Bendi Boi, debuting last week with two singles, “Sister Anna” and “The Fireplace Serenade”, a few days apart from each other, with a melodically driven somber atmospheric Post-Punk and a distinctive combination of English and German idioms.
“Sister Anna” is marked by witchy lyrics that introspect on isolation, fear, and rebirth using a sentient environment
Triggered and fueled by mechanical rhythms, a bleak punchy bassline furrowed by enveloping forsaken icy hissing winds of synth are pierced through by downbeat, plaintive glistening guitar melodies achingly reverberate along around haunted, baritone voice to instil further layers of perpetual gloom and profound melancholy with cries of heartfelt pain and high-pitched whispers, whilst decaying hopeless into the tumultuous twinkling billows of fate.
Wistfully bass-driven with retro percussive patterns is instead “The Fireplace Serenade”, yet equally haunting and poignant, for a project still in progress with interesting suggestions.
Just at the last moment was shared the video, filmed by Shinji Kim herself, featuring Ley Lee (aka Anna). Black and white split screen opposites project the negative light photography reflection of timeless archetypes into glowing orbs of destiny.
