WL//WH Track Of The Day : APOLOGIES “Dreams”

Track Of The Day

I hardly remember a band from Omaha, Nebraska, probably the most famous musician should be Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes and Desaparecidos fame, but it’s totally another story and genre.

On closer inspection also the recent Digital Leather and Visitor Information projects are Omaha based, showing that something’s definitely moving up there.

“Dreams/Empathetic” is the debut single from Apologies, the new project lead by former The Shrinks member and vocalist Blake Kostszewa.

“Dreams” is a gloomy, cold and atmospheric melding of synth-pop and post-punk moods, pulsing melodic bass, Cure-esque melancholic guitar leads and washes of icy synths to depict a deep sense of sadness, yearning and inevitability of the end, beautifully refined by his sad wandering and detached, almost Morrisonian vocals.
