Track Of The Day AN_NA
Just yesterday the uplifting Trance re-imagine of “Our Darkness”, Anne Clark‘s celebrated 80s New Wave anthem, was released by the no less seminal mid-80s electronic pioneer from Frankfurt am Main, Talla 2XLC, known as well as Andreas Tomalla, forever tied to the early days of Techno/EBM and New Beat, nestled around the ZYX Records label, and for the locals, I’ve been there once in the very late ’90s around its closure, the legendary Airport adjacent Dorian Gray club.
The signature Anne Clark formula of combining, or better, grafting a vibrant and evocative electronic foundation, assisted among others by none less than John Foxx, into magnetic, dreamlike and dystopian spoken word poetry, in Clarke’s case, portraying the perpetual struggle between glimpses of hope and a dark, hostile, oppressive metropolitan environment, inspires, in an abstract broader context, the new single, “You Want Gold,” charged with rattling Industrial percussive undertones, by Montreal, Quebec-based experienced Electro-Punk duo AN_NA.
Engulfed in a cold monochromatic world that crackles on a clattering bottom end of crisp skittering drum programming and flickering basslines, haunted spoken world vocals, weighed with tormented pathos, search for gold (truth and beauty), while, encircled by swirling arabesques of buzzing neurotic synths, diffusing doubt and alienation, into saddening drifts of solemn drama.
The visualizer for “You Want Gold” takes inspiration from the flickering orange/red color of the apocalyptic Canadian wildfires to sync with the bleak and melancholic impression of the soundtrack.
