Louisville, Kentucky based solo project Scary Black, ‘inspired by 80s alternative music, radio nostalgia, and music from the spaghetti westerns’, has just dropped “Shadow Dwellers (B-Sides)”, ‘the appetizer’ of what is to be the proper, work in progress, debut full-length album due next late spring. Nine immersive and gloomily intense tracks filled with synth-loaded post-punk sound mixed with gothy darkwave densely packed with horror-inducing layers of haunting melodies and lingering desperation.
In “Root of Self Hate” propulsive pounding drumbeats and resonant whipping claps, bolstered by icy dramatic synth melodies, undertake on a journey into the deep dark maze of the soul, as evocative sharp searing slivers of guitar leads beautifully echoing suffering, quivering, baritone pleas of sorrow and hopelessness engulfed in claustrophobic anguish of self-loathing and deprivation with no return.
Highly recommended!!!
