WL//WH Song Of The Day : Nearr ‘Nightshift’

Nearr, the solo project, now a four-piece, of the young Ukrainian singer/songwriter Eduard Tokuyev from Kharkiv, has releseased today his, already , third album “624”.

I was late for Nearr, it was ‘Forever’, from their late 2015 LP “History Repeats Itself”, that initially caught my ear, a beautiful jangle dreamy psych-pop ballad reminded me the best bits of The Church.

At first listen excellent in its entirety, the song that hooked me up immediately is the dreamy folksy “Nightshift”, colored by subtle semi-acoustic nuances and reflective melancholic tones, with that caressing pinched guitar, reminiscent of the unforgettable Ben Watt of the early 80’s, ‘North Marine Drive’ period, and the emotional voice combine to create an intense and hazy atmosphere of longing and nostalgia.

Once again a magnificent craftsman of sophisticated and passionate pop songs.
