On November 13, the significant duo Monsieur Crane from Bordeaux, France released their brand-new “Les Ravages Du Temps” LP through the home of select synth record label TONN RECORDINGS (Belfast). The band consists of Mickael Appollinaire and Plimplim, who delve deeper into the essence of the French Wave over the years and enrich it with additional elements that may initially seem disparate. However, everything they incorporate into their music contributes to its uniqueness and becomes a defining characteristic of their sound, their trademark.
“Les Ravages Du Temps” LP features nine unique tracks that showcase a high aesthetic in electronic sound. The targeted sound production follows the conventions of the French Wave, while they also blend their music with abstract minimal synth soundscapes together with the motoric characteristics of kraut electronica. “J’Observe” is the opening track of the album with an official video too, listen and watch and I’ll be back in a bit…
There are some other tracks on the album that dare (not always discreetly) to take similar paths but are always filtered through the prism of Monsieur Crane, listen to “Je Vogue”, “Serpentaire”, and “Dans Tes Yeux” to better understand the act’s mood this season, as experimentation is explored within strict soundworks on some seemingly simple ideas, which are, however, not merely simplistic. What they accomplish is remarkable and very artistic, reflecting a distinctly French style as they challenge the listener to internally compare all the information across different fields. Then, put on the rest of the tracks to enjoy the real progress of the beloved French Wave, into minimal electronic songs that are all danceable (of course) and so addictive to hear again and again. My only complaint about this album and its music is that it will likely remain underground, even though this dance music deserves to be played on all the radio stations and in all the clubs. But then again, perhaps that’s not such a bad thing. Maybe to truly enjoy minimal social electronic music, you need to embrace being a bit of a ‘bat’.
Ultimately, the more I listen to “Les Ravages Du Temps” LP, the more it reveals its nuances to me, which is also the purpose of this particular method in minimal-wave music. I recommend putting on your headphones and taking a walk through the streets with this exceptional album. Press play and enjoy a unique experience in your city.
Here we go, show to Monsieur Crane your love!!!
Keep up with Monsieur Crane:
