WL//WH Review: HUGE MOLASSES TANK EXPLODES “III” LP [Tidal Wave Records]

WL//WH Review HUGE MOLASSES TANK EXPLODES

On September 6, these remarkable Italians, Huge Molasses Tank Explodes (Milan), published their third album, “III” LP, through the newly formed Tidal Wave Records. Their new album includes an intro and 9 tracks that will elevate you with waves of guitars, showcasing some of the most captivating contemporary psychedelic soundscapes with boldness and enthusiasm. I’m not saying all this because that’s what Iggy Pop told us in his broadcast on BBC 6 a few days ago, but because their third album, apart from excellent compositions, melodies, and sound, has one more advantage…basically, when I first listened to it I put it back right from the start immediately to discover the more ‘hidden’ soundscapes of this album.

HMTE, plays modern psychedelic rock, as they envision it, influenced by a lot of solid krautrock elements, that are evident in all their music and tracks. They succeed in creating a complete auditory manifesto in each track, beginning with a simple initial melody and riff and transforming it into an endless adventure. Achieving this requires not only a clear method but also stability in their goals, and they often accomplish it in a phantasmagorical manner.

Of course, since they’re ‘contemporary amplified kids’ don’t think they won’t dabble in the noble art of melting their pedals…when the song decides for them “Now, it’s shoegaze,” one sonic fractal will follow the other until the same song tells them again, “And now it’s psychedelia again.” However, it can all start and end in kraut situations naturally. Sometimes, they embrace a heavier sound that is truly impressive, while at other times, they begin to explore various styles that reveal themselves when you listen closely to this remarkable album. What captivates me, though, is the clear structure of their music. They are a band that understands the importance of having a beginning, middle, and end in their songs, which helps prevent listeners from getting lost in a psychedelic haze. They play it safe, but they do so with knowledge and undeniable talent. They have beautiful ideas, and they write nice songs that take them there and no further, since every trip must have an end. Their destination is that door to open and have a good time, everyone!

It’s a very good album from a very good band and the only thing I’m missing…maybe an official video clip because this music should be a nice audio-visual experience…all the colors and sounds are present…and then again, it is psychedelic rock music…so the imagination can run wild. Here is the LP “III” by the Huge Molasses Tank Explodes, listen to it loud, and take care!!!
