On May 1st, Athamay (UK) released their new album “Necropolis,” a wonderful and dark tickling experience that follows last year’s powerful cocktail of the “The Crucifixion and the Resurrection” LP. Sean Athamay and Marlen Moisidou (Geisterwelt Nights) offer a unique musical experience, as the Athamay project is a true musical experience inspired by dark, passionate spaces, with maximum intensity…also, “Necropolis” LP was mixed and mastered by Martin Bowes (Attrition) at The Cage Studios…throughout the album, it is clear that there couldn’t be a more suitable person for this delicate work.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Sean on music, and Marlen on vocals and lyrics, have recreated the soundtrack of a night to remember with music that can be heard directly or from the next room (where its keyhole is blind). As if that weren’t enough, the album also captures the dream, the anticipation, and the musical essence of the vastness of the entire work. Dark electronic music, the defiant style of vocals on EBM rails, the darkwave, and the industrial sensuality are at the core of the Necropolis – a place where pure humanity is merely a memory or a distant hope.
The album features enchanting musical “confessions,” along with events and scenarios that provoke and excite the imagination. The realism that emerges from the speakers showcases a band overflowing with talent and dedication. Additionally, there are elements of surprise throughout the work; try “The Nun”, “Children of the Dead Gods”, “The Calling”, be surprised by “The Land of the Living Dead” (deathrock style, and sung in the exotic Greek language), discover the very cool cover of the classic Depeche Mode song “Master and Servant”, and let the album take you where it wants, it’s very likely that when it’s over, you’ll put it on repeat.
In summary, we have an excellent album created by two seasoned artists who have been part of the scene for decades. The “Necropolis” album conveys profound truths and features a remarkable sound overall (in production, mixing, and mastering), clearly showcasing that Athamay is currently in a strong and creative phase.
There you go, here is the “Necropolis”…
