WL//WH Premiere: VLIMMER Surrenders to Chaos in “Vielzuviel” [Blackjack Illuminist Records]

Instead of letting myself be crushed by the sheer overwhelming mass of impressions that affect me daily and everywhere, I have decided to surrender to the chaos of existence to see what it does to me. I think the most difficult challenge here is to detach myself from other people’s expectations. Or rather: from the expectations that we think others have of us.

The hyper-dynamic, ever-evolving Berlin-based artist and Blackjack Illuminist label head honcho Alexander Leonard Donat, returns to WL//WH with one of his better-known multiple projects, Vlimmer, a mercurial blend of Post-punk, Dream Pop and New Wave, with the premiere of “Vielzuviel”, the third single lifted from Vlimmer’s upcoming fourth studio album “Bodenhex”, scheduled for release on October 25, 2024 via the above mentioned Blackjack Illuminist Records.

In the song “Vielzuviel” I try to free myself from the pressure of others, after all I – like everyone – entered this life without being asked, without anyone giving me permission to live by passing a test. My own standards should be my benchmark, not those of some anonymous neighbor. And as long as we don’t harm others, there is no limit.

Permeated with dreamy, chiming tones a la DIIV along with swirling synth-laced new wave-y leanings, in “Vielzuviel”, Donat’s atmospheric vocals are less darkly haunting than we have become accustomed to, yet equally as compelling, with a lighter dreamy restlessness steeped in deeply felt emotions, gliding on the urgent tempo of trotting drum beats and throbbing bass lines, decorated by a vibrant, fickle spiralling canopy of sparkling bittersweet guitar melodies and hypnotic droning synth washes, to conjure the sensation of being in the setting but not at the mercy of it.

Vlimmer‘s 2-track third single “Vielzuviel”, backed by the cover of Sonic Youth‘s “I Love You Golden Blue”, is out now, while Vilmmer’s fourth album “Bodenhex”, will be released, in Vinyl 12″ /Box Set /CD /Cassette & Download formats, on October 25, 2024, via his own Blackjack Illuminist Records.
