“Diskomfort” EP Artwork

Berlin’s one-man sonic force Vlimmer, the main of the several projects by dynamic artist and Blackjack Illuminist label head honcho Alexander Leonard Donat, returns with his latest release, the 6-track “Diskomfort ” EP.

In contrast to last year’s “Bodenhex,” a disorienting, immersive descent into Darkgaze, Industrial, and Blackened Synthpop, this new EP sees Vlimmer taking the listeners by their hand rather than dragging them into the abyss, offering a sound that is still deeply atmospheric but more direct, shimmering, and dreamlike.

WL//WH is pleased to premiere the emotionally charged, darkly dreamlike song “Firmament,” about a lost soul struggling with the world’s changing vision, wherein dreams of harmony and growth for humanity are pulverized and replaced by a heavy darkness from the past.

This song is a direct response to last year’s album, “Bodenhex”, which was partly intended to really hit the listeners in their guts, like a punch to the stomach. Now, “Firmament” opens rather peacefully, and the way the vocals are buried in the mix reminds me of the earliest days of Vlimmer (2015) when singing was more of a lost sound somewhere floating in the ether.

A misty and ethereal swirling kaleidoscope of twinkling wistful guitars, and enveloping glowing synths, grounded by relentless hard-hitting beats and moody throbbing basslines, creates a distorted hazy trembling sky of warm bittersweet melodies, hopelessly dancing alongside hovering layers of wistful ghostly vocals, longing for peace and connection under the transformed constellations of the “Firmament.”

Vlimmer‘s upcoming 6-track “Diskomfort” EP is slated for release, in CD /Cassette & Download formats, on the 31st of January 2025, via his own Blackjack Illuminist Records.
