Born from a reflection on life’s encounters and constellations, ‘Reminiscence’ refers to the phenomenon of “déjà-vu” and soul recognition. Vague memories, distant images, recollections, reminders. For VALANAÏS, ‘Reminiscence’ evokes a personal feeling drawn from anecdotes that are both fictitious and real, on which she skillfully plays.

Paris-based DIY label Silent Ground keeps on digging into both intoxicating and disturbing obscure electronic soundscapes, strained by Darkwave, EBM, Industrial, and Post-punk inflections, through the new collaborative 5-track digital EP ” Réminiscence,” by French polymath artist, spoken word vocalist and lyricist Valérie Hendrich aka VALANAÏS.

The dramatic visceral narrative of VALANAÏS meets with the EBM/Industrial-charged dark electronic project, influenced by Darkwave and Post-Punk, from Karim Bornaz (aka Nasty Habits), aka BlindÇhild.

“Appeal” is an autobiographical track that recounts the harrowing story of my grandparents during the bombings of Berlin in 1945 wherein, following an evacuation to the countryside, Grandmother gave birth to Father whilst Grandfather was a prisoner of war. Analogies are drawn between the smoke and the atmosphere of Berlin’s destruction and the lights in the misty night of the Berlin countryside.VALANAÏS explains

The sinister and oppressive “Appeal” compels heavy pounding drum kicks and lashing beats with ominously rumbling bassline undulations and swishing flickering FXs, engulfed in alienating waves of heavy, discomforting synths that drone, seep, and lag over distressed and terrified spoken words, bringing forth a dire, oppressive feeling of being covered by tremoring doom.

VALANAÏS‘ upcoming digital EP “Réminiscence,” is scheduled for release on November 29, 2024, via Silent Ground‘s Bandcamp.
