Comprised of singer/songwriter Kevyn van der Linden and producer/instrumentalist Jeroen Verstappen, the Nijmegen, The Netherlands-based outfit The Psychedelic Birthday Party explores intimate storytelling through their melancholic indie songs.

WL//WH is pleased to premiere the video, edited by the US Indie Film maker from Raleigh, N.C., Gabrielle Devereaux, for the new single “Jacket,” featuring singer-songwriter Lily Beans.

‘Jacket’ comes from a quiet reflection on moments where I gave parts of myself to people and places that aren’t part of my life anymore.Kevyn says

The brief, folksy song is ‘a dreamlike, nostalgic trip down memory lane’ lilted by secretive, gently anxious male vocals, comforted by high female haloes, releasing deep regret over losing a favourite jacket into a curious melodic layering of wistful acoustic guitar chords, chiming glockenspiel, weepy synths, and sulking organ blows. It’s a warm, blurry zephyr of wistfulness to immerse in.

We let the waves kiss our feet, guarded our belongings from seagulls, and had pizza during golden hour.Kevyn says

The visual was filmed on the seashore of Kijkduin, the Netherlands, using a Super 8 camera to create a hazy, vintage vibe over Lily Beans and Kevyn van der Linden as they enjoy some playful fun in the sun. When the doom-laden lyrics appear at the bottom of the screen, it stirs the soul with sadness as, despite a twilight picnic of beer and pizza under the sun’s dimming rays, a loss has, or will occur.

Keep up with The Psychedelic Birthday Party:
