WL//WH is pleased to premiere an immersive video performance by the Seville, Spain Shoegaze/Dream Pop quartet, Swimming Pool.
Upstairs in an intimate recording studio, you will be able to get an up-close look and listen to Fran Lora, Isabelle, Jesus Garcia, and Alex as they reinvent the floating and mesmerizing synth-laden Beach House classic, “Space Song”, released in 2015, as a promotional single from the Baltimore Dream Pop duo’s fifth studio album, “Depression Cherry”, and unexpectedly ended up becoming a sleeper hit that went viral on Tik Tok in 2021.
The lyrics will probably mean different things to people, but the loss of a loved one and the recovery process afterward are key points.
While the original “Space Song” has an ironic vibe to it, Swimming Pool’s version seems more melancholic and uses mainly organic instrumentation with finely textured guitar work and warm sinuous basslines, but it is equally liminal. Steady nimble drum beats and obsessively rubbery serpentine bass pulses underlie light distorted shimmery guitar riffs, rippling sparkling echoes, and dim ghostly keyboard glows, to veil sad dreamy vocals, lost in angsty longing, with blurry layers of surreal reverb effects.
Keep up with Swimming Pool:
