The latest band to join the ever-expanding catalogue of Alexander Donat‘s Berlin-based DIY independent label Blackjack Illuminist, New Zealander duo Social Union from Ōtautahi, Aotearoa (AKA Christchurch) deliver a dramatic Dark Wave sound with Indie-Rock and Synth-Pop hues, drawing influences from Molchat Doma, The National, and Brutalist architecture, introduced by the dark, psychological love song, “Fall Into Me”, the title track from the upcoming debut EP “Fall Into Me”, WL//WH is pleased to premiere, to heal angsty, self-destructive obsessions that take hold from the deceptive hands of addiction recovery.
“Fall into Me” melds dark emotional pain with cold, distorted, and unhinged dimensions to layer heavy, swirling, buzzing bass line trembles with ominous, marching and rolling beats under dire, squealing effect-laden tears and distant, angsty synth bursts to build a stormy, toxic tide around desperate dreamy female vocals drawing helpless breathes of fear and abandonment from sticking cycles of longing and dread.
Social Union‘s debut EP, “Fall into Me”, is slated for release, on CD, Cassette & Digital, on July 8th via Blackjack Illuminist Records.
