WL//WH Premiere: MAGNET SCHOOL Rides the Curse of “The Raven”

 WL//WH Premiere  MAGNET SCHOOL

Formed in 2004, the veteran four-piece Alternative Rock band  Magnet School from Austin, Texas, made of Michael J. Wane (guitar), Mark Ford (guitar), Brandon Tucker (bass) and David Hobizal (drums, piano), following the recent release of the 5-track EP “The Raven” via Shifting Sounds, with the Official Video, directed by Kyle Snider and David Hobizal, for the title track, “The Raven”, WL//WH is pleased to premiere.

Be sure to check the swirling dual-guitar-driven Magnet School sound at Austin‘s SXSW Festival this March or if you happen to be on the other side of the world next Spring for a Japan Tour in May 2024.

Once again, Magnet School pulls from the best elements of 90s Shoegaze, guitar-heavy Indie/Alt Rock, and Dream Pop, containing big melodies, huge sonic soundscapes, walls of interwoven guitars, distortion and reverb, and big hooks to go along with it. These songs would fit right in with your Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel and early Ride records, while still sounding as current as ever, with the new crop of Shoegazed-influenced Alternative Rock bands surfacing out of Texas and around other parts of the US.

Feelings of betrayal cause a great deal of pain, stirring up an alarm of droning effects whilst relentless grinding layers of intense and ringing dual guitar riffs etch ruthless revenge through a rush of hard-hitting drum beats and heavy rumbling bass throbs, sweeping over urgent, restless, echoed vocals, with tumultuous vortexes from the tragic curse of “The Raven.”

An imaginative supernatural video, directed by Kyle Snider and David Hobizal syncs an illustrative flight of “The Raven” through a fiery apocalyptic realm with the raging momentum of the soundtrack. A curious amalgamation of textures seems to mix organic imagery with enhanced and animated orchestrations to give the viewer a dreamy Sci-Fi experience overlaid with a surreal psychedelic fantasy.

Magnet Schools 5-track “The Raven EP is out now, on 12″ Ltd. Edition Blood Red Transparent Vinyl + Digital, via Shifting Sounds in North America, UK, Europe, and Japan.
