WL//WH Premiere: KORINTHIANS’ Bitter Break-Up “Better Off That Way”

WL//WH Premiere   KORINTHIANS

WL//WH is pleased to welcome Korinthians, the Dance Post Punk four-piece band from Ghent, back to the blog for the video premiere of “Better Off That Way”, the first single taken from the forthcoming third studio album “Afterlife.”

The Belgian post-wave quartet blends 80s melancholy with 90s anger, inspired by artists such as Goose, Mogwai, Linea Aspera, Kaelan Mikla, The Soft Moon, Boytronic, M83, Actors, Kite, Agent Side Grinder and Boy Harsher. Over the years, they have supported Clan Of Xymox, Traitrs, Invincible Spirit, She Wants Revenge, Days Of Sorrow, The Sheila Divine, Actors and recently Agent Side Grinder.

Better Off That Way” is an angry break-up song, a love declaration for the purest of art forms (according to Schopenhauer), and, underneath all that, an acknowledgement of all of the grave errors a man can make.

A looming emotional storm unleashes a bouncy driving energy from steadfast drum beats and droney, undulating bass pulses, making its way under urgent swirls of dire synth lines and wistful wailing guitars, to carry an intricate male/female vocal layering, laden with resentment, fear, and judgment, through a tragic decision cast in pain-filled cries.

The paired video begins with a road trip down rain-soaked streets, from the Channel’s vast waters, through an English neighbourhood, to a stage where Korinthians perform “Better Off That Way” in sync with the soundtrack. Then a break takes place at a backyard gathering while a van waits in the driveway to take the band to their next live show in a church. Finally, the vision comes full circle with a ferry ride back to Calais over the sea.

Keep up with Korinthians:
