WL//WH Premiere: EXEDO Explore a Toxic Relationship in “Damage Up Ahead”

WL//WH Premiere EXEDO

Formed in 2020 by four stalwarts of the Chicago DIY alternative punk music scene, namely vocalist & keyboardist Christine Wolf (Daylight Robbery, Primitive Teeth), guitarist David Wolf (Daylight Robbery, Endless Column), bassist Milo Mendoza (Melanin, Staring Problem), and drummer Vince Miller (Permanent Residue), Exedo draw inspiration from a wide range of musical influences such as Post-Punk, New Wave, Surf instrumentals, fueled with raw Punk energy.

Exedo is a Latin word meaning to eat up, devour, or consume.  These acts, by self or others, are the genesis of themes for Exedo’s songs.  The Chicago band explores lyrical subjects like wasteful resource consumption, betrayal by one’s own body as it undergoes ageing and illness, and the devouring void of absence and loss.

WL//WH is pleased to Premiere the single “Damage Up Ahead”, an anticipation builder for the June 28, 2024 release of the debut studio album, “The Body Remembers”, via Dirt Cult Records.

One reason we wanted to work with Mike Lust on this record was so he could help us broaden our textures and sonic reference points. He was great at taking smaller bits of melody and giving them more presence. This song is one that really evolved in the studio from what we’d workshopped in our practice space and on stage. With added keys, percussion, and guitar layers, we were able to get closer to its emotional core.David Wolf says

Damage Up Ahead” is a song about watching a friend spiral out of control, causing steady tightly thumping drum beats and punchy bass lines to drive persistent spirals of simmering tension under shivering fluid keyboard sheets, and vibrant sparkling and abrasive twangy guitar reverberations, stretching and resonating with an obsessive poignant vibrancy to cover powerful, beautifully emotional female vocals, with the tumultuous anxiety of experiencing a helpless tragedy.

Exedo‘s debut LP, “The Body Remembers”, is slated for release, in Vinyl 12″ and Digital formats, on June 28, 2024 via Dirt Cult Records. On pre-order on the Dirt Cult Records Website and Bandcamp.

Keep up with Exedo:
