WL//WH Premiere BRIGHT LIKE STARS
In late 2023, Neil Burkdoll (Whimsical, Loveblind, Dirty Dead) moved to Germany and decided to start a new project while his band Whimsical was on hiatus. Bright Like Stars was formed in November 2023 with vocalist Craig Douglas (Neonach, Omega Vague) and within 2 months, the music for 12 songs was written and recorded. Over the next 9 months, vocals, mixing, and mastering were completed, resulting in an album that shows a more early 90’s “Alternative Sound” than the “Shoegaze/Dream Pop” sounds Neil is usually known for but with obvious hazy influences.
WL//WH is pleased to premiere the fourth excerpt, “The Less You Know”, lifted from Bright Like Stars’ upcoming debut album, “Reflections”, due out on November 29, 2024.
“The Less You Know” was sort of our attempt at trying to write a “Pop Punk” song with Shoegaze influences just to see what it would sound like. It’s a bit of an outsider on our album, but we think it stands out in a good way. There are energetic hooks that flow throughout the song that help push the momentum forward.
A high-energy fuzzy, hook-laden affair, “The Less You Know” drives an undertow of pulsing bass lines and frenetic hard-hitting drum beats to tumultuously sway with a crunchy momentum of charging guitar riffs, abrasively grinding urgent, aching vocals, falling helplessly into a dramatic piercing and ringing finale of letting go.
Bright Like Stars’ forthcoming digital debut album, “Reflections”, will be released and available for FREE on November 29, 2024.
