French gothic post-punkers HUMAN cover on ‘The Challenge’, originally from the Venus in Furs‘ debut ‘Platonic Love & Other Stories’ (1984), is the 5th step in revealing daily the first project from the Dark Alternative Music Collective WAVE.NOIR, entitled “My Velvet Cage”, a heartfelt tribute to the Sussex-based, UK cult band, Venus in Furs, that evolved out of the post-punk explosion of the early ‘80s, led by the enigmatic, yet still active frontman Times.
A bunch of contemporary dark alternative musicians such as Deus Faust, Nao Katafuchi, Emil Moonstone & The Anomalies, Human, Paris Alexander feat. Eirene, Pilgrims of Yearning, Shad Shadows, Two Moons, UIU, Ash Code, Distant Stars, and the already mentioned HUMAN, are going to pay their respects to those sought after, unforgettable, classics.
Here, the band from Rouen en Normandy, led by Frank Ligabue, took ‘The Challenge’ and while kept untouched the original riff and the melody, Frank Human’s characteristic voice gave the song a bit of a deeper shade, while the band seemingly discovered another different approach to the song and presented a gracious gothic rock cover of it. Everything here is shouting “this is our dedication to Venus in Furs and here is how that important band has affected us”. A pretty plain musical statement by HUMAN with a pretty targeted cover on that anthem which all ends up to an utterly successful revision. Here we go!!
Keep up with WAVE.NOIR:
