WL//WH Premiere #10: UIU “Almost” off “My Velvet Cage: A Tribute to Venus in Furs”

WL//WH ‘My Velvet Cage’ Premiere #10  UIU

UIU reinterpretations of “Almost”, originally published on the album ‘Megalomania’ (1989), is the 10th step to reveal, day after day, the first project from the Dark Alternative Music Collective WAVE.NOIR, entitled “My Velvet Cage”, a heartfelt tribute to the Sussex-based, UK cult band, Venus in Furs, that evolved out of the post-punk explosion of the early 80s, led by the enigmatic, yet still active frontman Times.

A bunch of contemporary dark alternative musicians such as Deus Faust, Nao KatafuchiEmil Moonstone & The Anomalies, HumanParis Alexander feat Eirene, Two Moons, Ash Code, Shad Shadows, Pilgrims of YearningDistant Stars, and the already mentioned UIU, are paying their respects to those sought after, unforgettable, classics.

Perth based, Aussie retro dark synthesist Greg Weir (one half of Truck Stop Alien), a.k.a. UIU, turns the bouncing New Order-tinged Venus In Furs‘ original into a mesmerizing soulful power-ballad, bursting with heartfelt passion and seething energy, that unfurls, driven by sturdy metronomic beats, across a reverb-laden carpet of abrasive guitar distortion, constantly stabbed by both majestic and dramatic, bright synth chords, blazing around intensely emotional vocals dripping with tearing heartache and pain.
