WL//WH New Music: WELCOME STRAWBERRY “No One Online”

Oakland, California-based new Dream Pop /Shoegaze band Welcome Strawberry, masterfully led by Cyrus VandenBerghe (guitar, vocals, synth) with the support of Daniel Baylis (drums, percussion) and Alexandra Morte (guest vocals), drops a teaser video for “No One Online”, the first single from the forthcoming debut eponymous debut album, mixed by Jorge Elbrecht (of Lansing-Dreiden and Violens fame) and mastered by Seattle-based sound engineer Dylan Wall (Craft Spells, Hibou, Naomi Punk, etc.), due out on September 2, 2022, via Too Good To Be True Records (EU) and Cherub Dream Records (US).

The mental escape song “No One Online” is a frothy and vibrant off-kilter blend of effect-laden blurry introspective 90s-tinged Shoegaze, Smashing Pumpkins crunchy riffage, Mercury Rev-like subtly eerie melodic dissonance. Hazy swelling waves of fuzzed-out distortion, abrasive noisy riffs and whiny, skewed lysergic ripples, hover over a tumbling waterfall of groovy syncopated crispy beats and digging bassline throbs, to weight down airy, layered, and carefree vocals in a frozen angsty realization that there is “No One Online.”

The conceptual visualizer scrolls random ambient scenery at high speed to evoke bittersweet nostalgia and hopeless fear. Abstract textures, strobing lights, and unstable visions blur into symbolic thought-forms using moody natural imagery, shifting seasons, and happy retro dance clips, to sync seamlessly with the dreamy, psychedelic vibes of the soundtrack.

Welcome Strawberry‘s debut full-length self-titled album is slated for release on September 2, 2022 via Too Good To Be True Records and Cherub Dream Records.
