WL//WH New Music THE CRYSTAL TEARDROP
The Crystal Teardrop is a new five-piece 60s-inspired Garage Rock/Psychedelic combo based in the Midlands, UK, made up of Alexandra Rose (guitar, mandola, vocals), Leon James (lead guitar), Stuart Gray (organ), Caitlin Hare (bass and vocals), and Connor Wells (drums), who follow their first, April 2023, psych folk single with raga suggestions, “Nine Times Nine”, with a debut video by James Shuker, for the new sitar-drenched Freakbeat reverie “By The River”, an equally mind-expanding experience, featuring Lucian Thomas from Manchester outfit Farfisa on sitar, building anticipation for a Southern France mini tour in December 2023.
“By The River” is inspired by our collective love for late-60s East-meets-West music (Beatles in Rishikesh vibes). The track has a distinctly Eastern flavour, featuring a drone based melody, shimmering guitars, rich textured harmonies and hypnotic drums, encouraging the listener to take a dreamlike journey into an ethereal world.
As busy, vibrant, and exotic as eternal love itself, “By the River” layers hop-skipping drum beats, groovy warm bass line pulses, tight echoing droning sitar strains, swirls of shivering guitar distortion and hypnotic jolly organ melodies around soft euphoric vocal harmonies, falling ecstatically into the whimsical ethereality of free-floating bliss.
The Crystal Teardrop’s debut video by James Shuker fuses kaleidoscopic reflections with melting double visions, and retro 60s fashions to take the viewer through the fabled looking glass, whilst syncing seamlessly with the Psychedelic vibes of the soundtrack. An enchanted forest cast in prismatic trace overlays and surreal backward flows of motion sets the thought-provoking backdrop for a group outing into Mother Nature’s realm of organic introspection, breaking the mold of limited perception with imaginative multi-dimensional insight.
