WL//WH New Music: STRUCTURES “Expectations”

New Music  STRUCTURES

We hosted the French Rough Wave /Post-Punkers Structures, at the time a quartet, on the occasion of their promising debut self-titled EP in 2018, now as a duo, the Amiens-based band are back, after the long-awaited reality of a first album, a couple of years ago, seemingly failed to materialise, with a double A-side single, “Expectations / Nothing Ever Lasts”, via Divorce Industries, clearly showing that the emotive intensity and the compelling passion and energy of their Post-punk have been unchanged.

Structures have shared also a symbolic video, by Sarah Gaëlle with visuals by Thee Attic, for the dark and magnetic emotional-laden song, “Expectations”, laced with sober lyrics that capture an honest moment of despair wherein lies doubt, uncertainty, and fear about the constantly shifting world around us.

Icy cold and haunted auras infuse eerie, bright twinkling synth chimes, sneaky undulating bass lines, harsh excruciating moans, and slow dragging beats with terror and pain to surround the heartfelt atmospheric agony of angsty, brooding vocal harmonies with sinister sways of impending doom.

Blurry, muted, and murky overlays reconstruct time-lapsed nature scenes into an immersive introspection of macabre destiny. Artificial, disconnected frequencies and unnatural hues transform the fateful life-cycle of flowers into a dark ethereal realm of shape-shifting shadows and merciless rotations, whilst chaotic natural imagery transitions feelings of helpless, violent destruction over the mind’s eye of hopeless dreams to deter subconscious thought forms from manifesting into the light.
