Discovered by chance last weekend, Stay in Nothing is a ’90s-influenced Grungey Post Hardcore duo from London, UK made up of Kay & Axe who follow up their 2022 debut LP, “Sin”, with a beautiful, timeless lyric video for the new single “Grey.”
Teetering between intense reflective melancholy and fuzzed-out outbursts, “Grey” unwinds crunchy and abrasive riffs, underpinned somber thumping drum beats and dense throbbing bass lines, stirring melancholic reflections weaved by rippling sparkling guitar melodies, to wrap evocative male-female vocal interplay of sad fragile introspections, distant emotional cries, and hazy baritone haloes with ethereal grunge-laden mists of cathartic weeping frequencies.
A thought-provoking performance by Stay In Nothing, molded by skewed angles, backward flows of motion, and rich sepia-tinted hues, leads to a winding country road of unfound wisdom. A surreal, sun-stained graveyard, ceremonial totems, and a dirt field of unplowed dreams set the symbolic backdrop for a cleansing vocal mantra, channeling ancestral energy to break the toxic ties that bind.
