NEW MUSIC  MISFORTUNES

Misfortunes, the one-man synth project of Ioakim Vasileiadis, based in Thessaloniki, Greece has shared a video by fellow Greek artist Kostis Argyriadis for “Twenty Steps to Infinity”, a song taken from “Voices Never Hear”, his fourth and first album for the Swiss Dark Nights label, reviewed by Mike at the very start of the year.

The lyrics by Kosmas Lazaridis are about when a spiritual connection is lost, how fear, emptiness, and longing sink in, causing fragile downtrodden vocals to wander in a dire gloomy mind frame on the pulsing cadence of steady thudding beats and ominously tremoring bass lines, surrounded by shivering sheets of wailing synths, swirling hopelessly before swelling into sullen raising swathes of hope.

In the video, Kostis Argyriadis sets a black and white still shot as the backdrop for layers of shape-shifting imagery while Misfortunes intimately performs “Twenty Steps to Infinity” under a strobing prism of colorful lights. Creative editing makes it appear as if a grey translucent tidal wave is destroying everything in its path, syncing seamlessly with the mental perception of the soundtrack.
