WL//WH New Music M/A/T
M/A/T is the electronic music project led by Hamburg-based DJ and musician Matthias Bischoff, a founding member of the former SynthPop band Cyber, with the vocal support from Myriam Borutta, whose melodic and dancefloor-inflected sound bridges Dark Electro, modern EBM and NNDW (Neue Neue Deutsche Welle).
The new digital single “Modular,” a further foretaste lifted from M/A/T’s upcoming album to be dropped later in the year, featured in two different versions, the more buzzy and slightly grittier “single edit” and the rounder, dark disco-tinged “cyber edit“, is a deep foray towards enigmatic dystopian horizons, balanced between full-body yet minimal, taut pulsating energy and enveloping, chilly futuristic atmospherics.
A heavy lashing drum programming surgically cut throbbing and clattering edgy low-end undulations, rentlessly crackling and bouncing under a sweeping mist of uncanny sci-fi synth drifts, while emotionless male spoken words layer and alternate with harsh, sensual female whispers, to unveil tragic lyrics about searching for meanings in clear reality.
