Vienna’s mercurial Noise Pop 4-piece Laundromat Chicks, made up of Tobias Hammermuller (vocals, guitar, founder), Lena Pöttinger (drums), Theresa Strohmer (guitar, vocals), and Felix Schnabl (bass), return after last June’s debut album “Trouble”, with a sentimental new single/video for “Nobody Believes Me,” via Siluh Records.
When you’re a kid, everything feels bigger. „Nobody Believes Me“ is a song about childhood fears and the beauty of growing up, expressed through horror movie references from movie buff Tobias.
A slice of rather thrilling and engaging tune welding deadpan nostalgic daze with fuzz-laden vexing guitar sparsity, vibrant sparkling leads, and syncopated lashing drum machine beats, to inject distraught melancholy around numb, angsty Jim Reid-like vocals, dropping alienation and dread into a somber anxiety of slow swaying and rippling moods.
Vibrant, youthful video, by Lena Pöttinger, draws from the pop culture classics of the 70s and 80s to create a quirky retro collage of childhood desires and fears. Keen editing, on-point acting, and evocative props manifest into a compelling flow of vintage t.v. ads, arcade games, and memorable edibles, to sync seamlessly with the coming-of-age suggestions of the soundtrack.
