The fave videos of 2025 were full of insightful sights and sounds and covered themes of brokenness, inner struggle, and transformation. There is so much to learn, from these great artists, about ourselves, others and the world around us. WL//WH wishes everyone a new year of learning, wisdom, discovery, and acceptance.
DUCTAPE – “Blue Black”
Ductape, the Ankara, Türkiye-based Darkwave duo of Furkan Güleray and Çağla Güleray, began the year with a DIY Official Video for the new single “Blue Black”, a deeply personal narrative about transformation and finding beauty within darkness, via the independent label Swiss Dark Nights.
- SWESOR BHRATER – “I Bring You”
Swesor Bhrather, the South of France Dark Folk / Cold Electronic project led by Victor-Yann (lead vocals, synthesizers, and analog drum machine) along with his feminine side Yule (vocals), joined by fellow musicians Otto Daf (hurdy gurdy, jouhikko) and Gebo (bass guitar, additional percussions), dropped a DIY video for, “I Bring You”, inspired by “A Poet To His Beloved” by William Butler Yeats, from the album “In The Crying of Wind”, via the Swiss independent label Eins-Awei-Acht.
AUGUST ANGST – “L’Ame”
Staying in the South of France for August Angst, the Toulouse-based Dark Folk/Dark Wave solo project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Jerome Ramirez, and the thought-provoking DIY video for “L’Ame”, a poetic song featuring the steadfast drumming of Hugo Ribeiro (Moonspell), and the stirring vocalizations of Caroline Joy Clarke, also the lead track on the EP “Et La Lumière Se Tue.”
LOVE IN PRAGUE – “Mysteries”
Love In Prague, the French Coldwave duo made of Benoît GERARD and Chloé PRAHA, released a darkly cathartic animated Official Video by MS333 MOVIES & SOUNDS, for the song “Mysteries”, taken from their fifth studio album “In My World” via Off World Music.
CAMP SAINT HELENE – “Call For Me”
Camp Saint Helene, the Witchy Psych Folk group named after a now-defunct Christian summer camp-turned arts colony in the Catskill Mountains of New York, made of Elizabeth Ibarra (vocals), Dylan Nowik (vocals, electric guitar, percussion, saw), Wesley Harper (acoustic guitars, organ, effects), and Alex Wernquest (drums), dropped a short film, by Silken Weinberg, from the three-track EP, “Call For Me”, via their own label Misery Mother.
RYLI – “Break”
Bay Area, California Indie group Ryli, led by vocalist Yea-Ming Chen (Yea-Ming and The Rumours) and guitarist Rob Good (The Goods), and buoyed by the rhythm section of Luke Robbins (Yea-Ming and The Rumours, R.E. Seraphin) and Ian McBrayer (ex-Healing Potpourri), dropped the soul-stirring video directed by Staci DeGagne for “Break,” taken from the debut album, “Come and Get Me”, via Oakland-based DIY label Dandy Boy Records.
D4RKSTAR – “A Different Beat”
D4RKSTAR, the solo Electronic project of Swedish musician and songwriter Andreas Lindh, dropped the nostalgic, fate-filled Official Video by Andreas Häggström Lind. for the emotionally driven, contemplative “A Different Beat”, from the 5-track EP “Dawns.”
- VITA AETERNA – “Perpetua Nox”
Mexico City-based Goth Darkwave band Vita Aeterna, started in mid-2024 as the solo project of guitarist and singer Ernesto Alejandro, who was joined officially by Ramón on electric bass, and Lesli as backing vocals after releasing the debut album “Penumbras”, from which the haunting Official Video “Perpetua Nox” came forth.
- TERMINAL SERIOUS – “Sewn Eyelids”
Terminal Serious, the darkwave solo project of the Florence, Italy-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Luigi Buonaiuto, released a video by Studio Nubes for “Sewn Eyelids”, “a journey through the pain and contradictions of everyday life that nevertheless delivers a message of hope and rebirth,’ from the third full-length album, “Tear You Away,” via Swiss Dark Nights label.
YEARS OF DENIAL – “Devil In A Skirt”
Years of Denial, the dark electronic project of French musician and producer Jerome Tcherneyan (former drummer of cult British group Piano Magic) and Czech performance and music artist, lyricist, and singer-songwriter Barkosina Hanusova, rolled out an Official Video, directed by the highly talented Simone Pellegrini, for “Devil in a Skirt”, the opening track of the EP “Love Cuts” via VEYL.
DISTANT STARES – “Epitaph”
Next, we go to Finland, where the solo project of former extreme metal guitarist turned Gothic Rock singer and songwriter Lassi AKA Distant Stares released the soul-stirring video for “Epitaph”, the first excerpt from the band’s forthcoming 9-track album, “Separated For Life”, scheduled for release on March 1, 2026.
DAVID BORING – “Martyr # 1”
The year’s journey ends in China with David Boring, the Hong Kong-based Post Punk/Noise outfit made of LAU Janice (Laujan) on vocals, CHEUNG Jason (Jason) on synths/keyboards, CHENG Yat-wa Dave (Wa) on guitar, YIP Gavin Chun-kit (Yip) on guitar, and LAU Pui-tak (Paigut) on drums, whose Official Music Video by Ron Wan (director) and Samuel Chan (cinematographer) for “Martyr # 1” explores surrender, taken from the long anticipated sophomore studio album, “Liminal Beings and Their Echoes”, scheduled for January 12, 2026 via the London-based label Damnably.
- MOODY MCIVOR – “Ronnie Adelene“
A bonus video, to warm the heart and shine some light into the new year, a tribute to the death of a close friend and the celebration of a new daughter, Nerang, Australia’s Electronic denizen Chris Mcivor, under the Moody Mcivor moniker, dropped a video for “Ronnie Adelene” part of the debut 4-track EP “Shadow Frequencies” via Ronnie’s Records.
