Death Of Lovers is the new wave / post punk offshoot of 3/4 of heavy shoegaze rockers Nothing made of guitarist/singer Domenic Palermo, bassist Nick Bassett (formerly Deafheaven and Whirr), and drummer Kyle Kimball plus the charming keyboardist Cecilia Liu.
After a promising debut EP ‘Buried Under A World Of Roses’ in 2014, essentially influenced by the 80’s goth post punk, the Bay Area four-piece is finally going to release their debut full length titled ‘The Acrobat’ for the always excellent Dais Records.
Even if the album seems to contain hints of new wave bands like Psychedelic Furs and A Flock Of Seagulls, the latter curiously considered a second-rate outfit and slammed by the critics at the time, ‘Orphans Of The Smog’ is instead a classic poignant and hypnotic bass-driven post-punk number interlayered with slices of razor-sharp guitars, coupled then with intense Kevin Haus-directed visuals shot in the streets of Philadelphia, is more than enough to provide me of my daily much-needed shivers of post-punk bliss. Cool stuff!
