French duo Spleen XXX based out of Rennes, comprised by the visionary artistic talent of singer/songwriter/photographer Isthmael B. and the instrumental ability of Stéphane G., are back with a brand new track and video.
Last year magnificent debut album “Poems of Charles Baudelaire” on Meidosem Records and Nomos Dei Productions, inspired by the poetry of the iconic 19th century Parisian poet, struck the imagination of most post-punk fans with its as refined and elegant as powerful and evocative dark sound.
“A Passage in the Hand” creates a distressing, dark, icy atmosphere reminiscent of The Cure’s “Pornography” era, pervaded by an uncompromising claustrophobic sense of loss and sorrow. Driven by a dense interconnection of strong and repetitive infecting bass riffs and hypnotic militaristic drums, and highly emphasized by excruiciating stabs of sharp guitars and mourful synth layers. The at first indiscernable muted vocals, erupt into a muffled shout crying out to be heard.
The haunting video, as always written and directed by Isthmael B., takes us down a dark passageway lit only with flickering candlelight where reflections of the past are overshadowed with new ideologies, leaving doubts and sorrow along the wayside as new discoveries yet to be made.
