Since October 2018, the Mexico City-based band, RILEV keep churning out an increasingly refined ’90s-infused brand of atmospheric, oneiric, and reflective Shoegaze, somehow lush, dazzling and mystical in its purity, ruffled by sudden dizzy cascades of invigorating walls of sound and blinding reverberations.
The four-piece have just dropped the second single, titled “Velocidad”, taken from the forthcoming EP “Noizu ノイズ” scheduled to be released on August 15, 2023.
The introspective lyrics capture a moment of coming down from a high where longing and dread set in as everything slows to an eternal pace.
“Velocidad” glides over an urgent and rattling underpinning of steady thudding drums and rumbling bass lines, furrowed by dizzying, iridescent, and frothy expansive swells of muffled fuzzed-out guitar layers and sparse high-pitched, insistent whining ripples, winding in misty ethereal distorted spirals and restrained chaotic feedback, whilst distant hazy breathless vocals long in angsty confessions, amid urgent obsessive overflows of disconnected fear.
