Athens based Electro Dark Wavers, The Man & His Failures, lead by frontman Manos K. (Voices, Lyrics, Music, Vision) along with Alekos Sorros (Beats, Synths, Loops, Music), Memos Pilaftsis (Electric guitars, FX), and Dimitris Georgopoulos (Electric Bass, FX), return with a Retro Futuristic video edit by Antonis Ntinos for the gripping, adrenaline-fueled track “Devastations”, taken from this Summer’s limited edition Lathe Cut 7″ Split single with Incirrina, “Devastations/R.Daneel”, released by Thessaloniki-based label Smash Records for Record Store Day 2021.
“Devastations” explores the deplorable exploitation, manipulation, and uninformed consent of the human condition by deceitful, heartless greed.
Cinematic voice samples lie the insidious foundation for steady punchy backbeats to march relentlessly through the cutting drone of metallic guitar strings, buzzing reverberations, and thick churning bass lines to heighten the persistent, gritty male vocals into a swirling chaos of sinister flashing synth strains fluttering whimsically into an unstoppable atmospheric barrage of pain.
Vintage Sci-Fi movie clips from the pages of Dark City, Mad Max, and Hardware form an ominous collage of dread and paranoia as they connect the unmistakable dots between our current dystopic world and presage fiction. Medical experimentation for the survival of humankind goes astray as common themes regarding man vs. machine, collective consciousness, and lost identities by a sinister force insert predictive programming, psychological suggestions, and gratuitous victories into a spectacular fantasy of indoctrinated doom. A universal thread of foresight weaves inverted, deceptive, and sterile atmospheres around oppressed, alienated, and microchipped citizens whose last chance for freedom lies in the fate of their own hands.
