VOID // GIST is a German power trio from Hamburg, with a sound that goes straight to the roots of early 80’s post-punk and coldwave to churn out their own mournfully stripped-down yet highly intense version, with intriguing psychedelic nuances.
The band have released their second full-lenghth few days ago titled “Cuts” after almost 3 years of hiatus since their sophomore album “Severance” in October 2015.
“Itch” is briefly introduced by sinister ambient drones, soon the sombre and haunting vocals grip into stabbing and droning guitars and menacing hook-laden driving bass lines, interwoven with relentless hypnotic drumming, giving the whole a sonorous tone of ecstatic foreboding and mangled desolation and pain, brimming with tension, energy and gloom. ending with the bleak.
Four visceral and immersive minutes that end with the sorrowful bleak lines “Everything is lost / Nothing remains”, just one of 9 pitch black shards of aching beauty.
