It is great to see more young promising shoegaze-sounding Texas bands coming from cities other than the usual Austin area. Glare, Angel Aura, Daze, Desert Museum and most recently Forth Worth 4-piece Trauma Ray , comprised of Nicholas Bobotas (drums), Darren Baun (bass), Jonathan Perez (guitar) and Uriel Avila (vocals, guitar), that are going to drop their debut 4-track EP “[trauma ray]” on September 21.
The first single “Relay” is made of a dense and rarefied guitar laden sound that draws heavily on the 90’s heritage of noise-rock bands like Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth and the shoegaze introspection of My Bloody Valentine. A song, about delusions, deception, and facing reality, built with a murky and wistful wall of sharp guitar reverberations and distortions interspersed with ethereal and longing vocal melodies clouded in heartache, disappointment and final acceptance.
As melodic and powerful, as it is emotional and raw, “Relay” is an intriguing introduction.
Keep up with Trauma Ray :
