Unfortunately I didn’t find time to post their last video, ah the solitude, however last Friday was the biggest and most exciting day for the brilliant Mancunian post-punk trio LIINES , made of Zoe McVeigh (vocals/guitar), Tamsin Middleton (bass) & Leila O’Sullivan (drums), their long-awaited debut 10-track full length “Stop – Start”, after an amazing strings of singles, was finally out via Reckless Yes Records, and it doesn’t disappoint at all.
In the 90’s would have been straight in the K Records, Wiiija or Clawfist Records rosters, a persuasive blend of dense post-punk and noisey and twisted indie rock with some grunge undertones.
Dense, essential, anxious, full of pathos and energy, it does not contain a moment of weariness, a sonic assault after another withouth any reflective moments.
In “Be Here”, with “Find Something” my personal fave, the driving, throbbing Tamsin’s bass and and an extraordinary fierce Leila’s drumming rumble along and shake the already tense atmosphere in their powerful cohesive way, just about grounded by sudden dissonant and abrasive slices of guitar riffs and energetic and the emotional and compelling Zoe’s vocals swing from breathy to stronger tones, reiterating her firm intention of “not gonna give up easy…I want you to be here”.
It’s only rock’n’roll (but we like it)!!!
Keep up with LIINES :
