WL//WH Video Of The Day  Чайки улетают с моря

Чайки улетают с моря, translated from Russian ‘Seagulls fly away from the sea’, is a Gothic-tinged Dark Wave /Post Punk band from Saint Petersburg who recently dropped a video for  “У разбитого корыта / At the Broken Trough”, lifted from last January’s  7-track album “Закончить это всё / End it all.”

Esoteric lyrics give insight into the gift of doing things for yourself, with your own two hands, rather than letting others do it for you.

Ethereal and buzzing tones set an ominous uncanny aura fueled by clattering drum beats and steadfastly menacing throbbing basslines to bring forth a thick murky darkness, pierced through by sparkling pain-filled guitar wails along with icy brittle forlorn synth glows, to hopelessly echo and tremble, amid a whispery quite seemingly parent/child speaking interlude, around freaky airless baritone gasps.

Visually, the sky is grey and gloomy, with episodes of rain over an old brick apartment building wrapped in barbed wire. Чайки улетают с моря delivers a dramatic performance of “У разбитого корыта” while a Gothic beauty, in the person of Elizaveta Du, strikes poses and walks around. The contrast of emotions between the two is palpable and evokes almost a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ vibe.
