WL//WH Premiere Palm Ghosts
WL//WH is pleased to Premiere the touching cover/video from Nashville, Tennessee-based band Palm Ghosts, of Tim Buckley‘s classic eternally romantic love song, “Song to the Siren”, included on his 1970 album “Starsailor.”
Palm Ghosts follow in the footsteps of This Mortal Coil’s memorable 1983 re-work founded on the bewitching heavenly vocalizations of Elizabeth Fraser and the sparse sparkling guitar chords of Robin Guthrie from Cocteau Twins, by featuring the beautiful, haunting vocals of Anne McCue, a singer-songwriter, guitarist, music-recording producer, video director, and radio host from Australia, best known for her solo career and the band Eden AKA.
The four-piece, made up of Joseph Lekkas (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Bass), Benjamin Douglas (Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals), Jason Springman (Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals) and Walt Epting (Drums), shape their eclectic blend of ’80s-inspired New Wave /Post-punk and Indie Rock, into an immersive mystical dreamscape swept by the tempting supernatural allure of McCue’s siren call.
Palm Ghosts take the soul-stirring 60s romance of Buckley’s original folk score and add rich, sentient textures from gentle, scraping guitar melodies and low rising and trembling bass lines, whilst the heavenly wafting instrumentation of Anne McCue’s chilling celestial cries seamlessly fuse with the cold ethereal ghost-like domain, to surround the powerful emotional lead vocal, channeling a lost sailor, with the light of safety from the deadly siren’s bewitching spell.
The Official Video invokes the deep, epic sentiments of the soundtrack by guiding the viewer into the hypnotic rise and fall of endless dark waters. Sun and moon rays cast awe-inspiring reflections of hope and insight between symbols of suggestive romance, before pulling the watcher into the shadowy doom and gloom of despair at the hands of a tragedy at sea.
