It’s all about the “atmosphere, nothing else matters” according to the enigmatic one-man band from Niederburg, Germany.
A wintry, grim, and immersive Darkwave sound swept by swathes of entrancing moodiness, underpinned by steady, repetitive drum patterns and bleak murmuring bassline’ pulses, whilst seamlessly stirred by a sprawling glistening tapestry of subtly piercing languid and liquid effect-laden guitar work, radiating sadness and affliction over a stifling mist that fills everything, punctuated by lonely wistful musings of lyrical despair.
Across all the 6 tracks, the German musician successfully strives to build an absorbing, grim and depressing ambience, to which he has unyieldingly committed since his inception, soaked in hazy monochromatic reverberant intricacy, laced with vulnerable downcast emotional introspection, to spread ethereal and emotive guitar lines over an expansive hypnotizing shifting array of arpeggios, strums, chords and restrained aching soaring wails, into all-consuming shadows of turbulent inner turmoil.
A non-easy task is extrapolating a single trace from an opus that must be ‘felt’ in its entirety to penetrate the murkily mesmeric aura of existential desolation from the entrance to the outro, possibly only stiffened by the synthetic drum programming, somehow echoing The Cure “Pornography” period or early Fra Lippo Lippi cloaked in a web of reverb, I’ll pick up the first track I listened to, “Philosophy of Irony”, whose poignant lyrics point out the irony of casting blame, shame, and deception over another character when they themselves are behaving in the same manner.
Steered by steady punchy beats along with a low undercurrent of swelling gloomy bassline, obsessive reverb-laden sparkling 6-string melodies wander and resound, surrounded by lonesome sax-like flitters, drizzling down with searing morose and downtrodden melancholy around emotionally worn down and depressed vocals, brooding in the somber reflections of a broken heart.
