Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – December #50-21

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Salford UK new wave /dream pop duo C. Carr (aka English Summer, Idle Communists) & S. A. Messner (Idle Communists), aka The House of Silence – “It’s Getting Late (Fall Asleep)” debut single

Although I just spotted yet another amazingly named 3-piece band, Idle Communists, which I blatantly missed, in which is involved, South Australian artist C. Carr returns again this week as The House of Silence, in duo with his collaborator, as underlying musician and technician in a good portion of his singles under his alias of English Summer, where he continues his moving and heartfelt love letters to the British pop of the 80s wandering through Felt, Creation, Postcard and Sarah Records to the Smiths and many others, with his distinctive Jarvis Cocker-like croons, here coated with a swirling warm analog synth sound. The debut single explores The Wake-like lovelorn synth-pop, infused by a dreary nostalgic aura that gently lights glaring and whimsical wistful synth chords, rambling around a dreamy yet powerful male vocal magnetism, releasing the dramatic emotional intensity of love note lyrics into a sparkling calm of togetherness.

  • Barrie, Ontario based dreamy /shoegaze /indie-rock 4-piece Mount Mural “Sickboy” new single

New live jam from the Canadian 4-piece, rife with their immersive inner storms of vibrant and poignant dreamlike emotions and wandering crystalline, sometimes angular, instrumental melodic turbulence, seamlessly innerving their shimmering shoegaze sound with ripples of post-rock, math, midwest emo, that weaves distressed, brazen moods of painful and obsessive sparkly guitar melodies, emotionally reverberating around the subdued alienation of feather-light vocal whispers, falling tragically through a winding droning tension of isolated fear.

  • Halifax, NS dream pop /shoegaze solo project Drown “Be Home For Christmas (cover)”

A bit different than the usual festive whinings, Halifax‘s DIY shoegazer drops a haunting, gloomy Christmas cover drawing melancholic veils of glistening obsessions over dreamy/sad vocal longings, and distorted hums to channel forsaken yearnings from bittersweet days of olde. Merry Christmas!
