WL//WH Weekly Post-Punk / Darkwave / Dark Synth Tips

Weekly Post-Punk / Darkwave / Dark Synth Tips – October #42-21

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Mexico synth-wave /darkwave solo project of Iván Zamudio, aka Abadía – “Presagio” from upcoming debut S/T album

Another intriguing dark and evocative synth-driven one-man band from Mexico, as we have been accustomed to in the last years, as the latest LP from El Ojo y la Navaja clearly shows. The droning menace of warped bass tones undulates and bounces increasing dread under cool, haunted and alluring baritone vocals delivering a dire “Omen” of ancient doom, dripping anxiety and fear through a warm glowing whirlwind of sinister synth tensions and hypnotic urgent rhythms to fall helpless into the looming eternal obscurity.

  • Dark Punk /Synthpop duo from Singapore, PROSPEXX “The Garden” from the upcoming debut album ‘A Quiet World’ in production now on Symphony Of Destruction

Singapore‘s dark punks return armed as usual with emotional ridden swirling synthesizers, instead of caustic guitars, and slightly old-school industrial, retro disco-indebted dance floor appeal. “The Garden” travels back to a time of harmony, warm fires, and strength to ignite slashing mechanical rhythms and ominous bouncing basslines, whilst icy bright synths, laced with anxiety and melancholy, eddy around nostalgic heartfelt female vocals longing in desperate captivity and shifting dimensions of fear.

  • French new wave /indie rock /post-punk trio from Paris, THE FUNERAL WAREHOUSE “Can’t See Why” from upcoming debut LP “Hours & Days” on Icy Cold Records

Parisian trio unveil the first two previews from the forthcoming debut LP, while “Miles Away” delves into almost lysergic, groovy and noisy rocking realms, more close to early-mid 80s UK post-punk sensibilities, “Can’t See Why” is nestled among Joy-Divisionesque mournful rolling bassline, prickling weft of Also The Trees-like reverb-inflected obsessive piercing and gleaming guitar strains along with wistful evocative synth swirls, to instil discomforting moods of alienation, while weaving palpable pain and judgement around the distressed emotional male vocals releasing desperately misunderstood observations of shame “They’re all looking down on me.”
