Perth based New Wave act Web Rumors drops the music video, produced by Adem K (The Future Ranch), WL//WH is pleased to premiere, for the upcoming first preview, “New Wave Heartache”, taken from the forthcoming sophomore album scheduled for release mid-year through Group Therapy Records.
Songwriter/producer Em Burrows moves towards the darker sounds of ’80s alt-pop with
“A combination of jangly chorus-laden guitar, classic electronic drums, sax and synths calling to mind the likes of Bronski Beat and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.”
A warm quivering glow rises through scratchy abrasive guitar strings to awaken from a dream world into a harsh reality sewn in heart skipping beats, icy withdrawn synth melodies, and low meandering bass tones, while beautifully stunned female vocals release atmospheric fear and longing, soothing hums, and a powerful chorus of a defining moment into a whirlwind of saxophone blows and sparkling, lingering hopes.
“Lyrically, says Burrows, ‘New Wave Heartache‘ started as a riff on the German phrase “alt romantisch”(old romantic). “It’s about being an “old” romantic in a “new” world; that idea of a dreamer grappling with the realities of modern life.”
Cinematic video shot, by Adem K (Turnstyle/The Community Chest), from the window of a train in Berlin, draws sentiments from the metropolitan landscape to evoke intense melancholy and nostalgia, as intimate, dramatic overlays depict a romantic backstory for the mind’s eye of imagination to elaborate on. The sad yet exciting journey travels into the unknown realms of love casting grey somber skies, urban graffiti, and striking architectural angles against a sentient flow of motion to create a timeless journey through past lives and alternate dimensions where different scenarios exist with each memory.
