WL//WH Track Of The Day: AUTOGRAMM “Bad Days”

Track Of The Day Autogramm

Canadian synth power-pop band Autogramm have just dropped the new limited 2-track 7″ vinyl single “Bad Day / Quiero Estar Sedado”, the latter an effective Spanish version of The Ramones classic ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’, via the Madrid based Spanish independent label Jarama 45RPM Recs.

Born out the mutual love for punk and power-pop by Vancouver‘s guitarist Jiffy Marx and bassist C.C.Voltage through the idea to start a new wave band, the addition of fellow former Black Mountain and Destroyer drummer/producer The Silo was the final boost.

Fortified from their old acquaintance as strong player of the British Columbia’s capital alternative music scene, sharing stages, friends and even band members in seminal punk acts such as Jerk With a Bomb, The Spitfires, Blood Meridian, Lightning Dust, Hard Drugs, Black Halos, Black Rice and Black Mountain, the trio does not find any difficulty at showing all its pop prowess in last year’s first full-length, “What R U Waiting 4?” on Nevado Records. Through an array of, late 70s / early 80s flavoured, buoyant, infectious melodies, bouncy and sprightly rhythms, vigorous punkish guitar riffs, chiming synths over uplifting vocal harmonies, the 3-piece inject pure and fresh synth-infused power-pop nuggets of unmistakable quality.

The upbeat “Bad Day”, dealing with the laborious unending struggle endured during depression, bursts out with fluttering bright synths, deep throbbing bassline and punchy guitar riffs grounded by tight lithe drums, lifted by Beach Boys-like vocal harmonies echoing soulful vocal hooks and impassioned plea.

A punchy and rousing power-pop hit with subtle mod-revival suggestions, dense and sharp in its simplicity, awash with heartfelt and plentiful pop sensibilities. Couldn’t ask for more…

Keep up with Autogramm:
